Project: File Organization

Practice organizing files using touch, mkdir, mv, and cp.

Step 1

Create sample files to organize: report.pdf, budget.xlsx, photo.jpg, music.mp3.

Type: touch report.pdf budget.xlsx photo.jpg music.mp3

touch report.pdf budget.xlsx photo.jpg music.mp3

Step 2

List the current directory to see the messy state.

Step 3

Create the organized directory structure.

Step 4

Move document files to the documents folder.

Step 5

Move the photo to the photos folder.

Step 6

Move the music file to the audio folder.

Step 7

Verify the documents folder contents.

Step 8

Create a backup copy of the report.

Step 9

Verify both the original and backup exist.
